Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga offers indoor fall fun

Looking for indoor places to visit in the fall? The Chattanooga Aquarium is actually called the Tennessee Aquarium. It is easy to refer to it by the city because Chattanooga is so well known. This downtown attraction is open daily from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Visiting is a good alternative to rainy drizzly days and provides fun that the entire family can enjoy. Plus, it is the five year winner of the Best of the Best award in Chattanooga. That alone tells you that this is a must-see.

We have visited many times and when we do, I try to always make a point to take in an IMAX movie. It isn't included with admission but is worth the extra cost. Playing right now is To the Arctic 3D, The Last Reef 3D and Flight of the Butterflies 3D (prices are online).

The aquarium is housed in two separate buildings. The River Journey begins with a trip to a mountain oasis. Watch the river otters play and watch for the birds. As you descend through the depths of the Tennessee Aquarium (Chattanooga Aquarium), you will through a mock bayou and past massive tanks that are filled with freshwater and saltwater fish.

The second building is Ocean Journey. It begins with a walk through a giant butterfly garden. Visitors must check themselves in the full length mirrors before leaving. Butterflies sometimes turn into hitchhikers and attempt to leave with you.

Parking is adjacent to the complex but can be pricey. I usually park the car at the Chattanooga Choo-Choo and catch the free shuttle that goes throughout downtown.
