Ober Gatlinburg is the top ski resort in Tennessee

Ober Gatlinburg is the one place in Tennessee where you can ski, snowboard or go snow tubing. It has been years since my daughters and I have been skiing. Hubby has never been able to go. We hope to change that when my leg heals. I have been intrigued by Ober Gatlinburg for years. No matter what the activity, everyone that I have spoken with have always had a good time.

Snow in KentuckyIt helps that ski reports are posted and updated daily and that discounts are available. With advance reservations, 15 or more can quality for group rates. The only exceptions are weekends and holidays.

If you like to ski frequently, season passes are available. Plus, discounts are given for AAA and AARP members. Don't forget your membership card. This helps make visiting more affordable for a family.

Don't ski? No problem. Ober Gatlinburg offers beginning ski classes to get you started. You don't have to own your own skis. Equipment can be rented on-site on a first come, first served basis. A fee and a deposit is required for snowboarding equipment.

All skiers must adhere to the National Ski Areas Association endorsed Skiers Responsibility Code. We agreed to adhere to it when I last hit the slopes. Most of it is common sense. Follow directions on all posted signs, stay in control, don't block traffic or run over anyone else... that sort of thing.

Read the code on before heading to Tennessee to the slopes. Following the rules skiing fun and safe for everyone. If you can't follow it, then stay home.

Ober Gatlinburg is a year-round attraction. Some activities (such as all things snow related) are offered seasonally. A few of the other activities include:
Ice Skating
Alpine Slide
Wildlife Entcounter
Chairlift
Carousel
Blue Cyclone Rapids

The resort has several places where you can warm up in the winter or cool off during the summer. Dress for the weather no matter what season you visit. Dressing in layers, sunglasses and even sunscreen may be needed year round.

This article links to winter fun in the greater Knoxville area. Attractions that are close to home can always be fun. However; if you want a day trip that's filled with winter sports, then a trip to Gatlinburg may be in order.

Click the link below to get the full scoop on Ober Gatlinburg operating hours, snow reports and other updates. The site even has a webcam so you can see the resort conditions before you arrive. Be careful though. If you are like me, viewing through the webcam only made me want to go that much more.

  1. Living 2 hours away I have never been to Gatlinburg or the Smokies when it snowed. I'd really love to just once.

    Thanks

  3. Sorry. I removed a comment because of a typo. The major road into Gatlinburg usually cleared pretty quickly.

The secondary roads aren't long behind. The roads out of Gatlinburg leading to the mountains usually close in winter. Other than that, it's usually pretty clear.

When you go someday, be sure to post the photos. I'm sure they'll be stunning.
