How to pick out an apartment

I’m writing this article on how to pick out an apartment for my daughter and future son-in-law. They haven’t begun their marriage yet. Actually, we are all researching wedding venues and options. That hasn't stopped them from dreaming of their new home and their life together.

From what I gather they are looking for an affordable castle. You know, one with lots of different rooms and everything except a moat. Preferably, one with a guest cottage that the future in-laws can stay in. (Both sides of in-laws I’m sure.) If they could get a place from Manhattan Beach Apartment Rentals and commute to Tennessee I’m sure they’d try to do that..

Eventually, reality will hit them like a ton of bricks. This article on how to pick out an apartment will be here when it does.

My mom used to have rental property and Hubby and I have lived in a few apartments during our marriage.Choosing a place went much smoother once we learned these tips.

Space
When looking at how to pick out an apartment it pays to look at what you really need. Places with washer and dryer hook-ups, a pool and cathedral ceilings cost more than those with fewer amenities. Why pay for more than you need?

Affordability
This sounds like a no-brainer but it’s not. It’s like when you go to a car dealership. They try to sell you on a fully loaded car and then put you in one that you can afford. Apartment companies sometimes do something similar. They’ll show you the clubhouse and larger more expensive apartments to hook your interest.

When you are trying to pick out an apartment decide what you can afford and stick to that price. This is especially important to keep in mind around the time of the wedding. No one needs to begin their marriage by struggling to make rent on a overpriced (to them) apartment.

Start looking early.
It’s hard to create time for apartment hunting the week before the wedding. Begin your search a month or two before you move in together. You are more like to pick out an apartment that fits your needs by starting early.

Here are a few of my blog articles on wedding insurance and green living  and wedding planning.
