Free things to do in Charlotte, North Carolina

Downtime during the Deomocratic National Convention (DNC) may be limited. Families who are heading to the convention are looking for free things to do in Charlotte, North Carolina. Each attraction puts its own mark on the city. Here's the list of free things to do. See what you think. It may put Charlotte on your travel list.

UNCC Botanical Gardens
These gardens at UNC may be the ideal place to find some peace and quiet - and it's free! Can there be any better place to relax than in a garden? The three separate sections of the complex include the McMillan Greenhouse, Susie Harwood Garden and the Van Landingham. Native and tropical plants are on display. The gardens are open seven days a week from daylight to dark.

Parks and Recreation
Every city is developing green spaces for residents and visitors. The free parks are a Charlotte activity that the whole family can enjoy. After a day of travel or meeting stretching tired legs feels good. Ten Charlotte parks have special hours during the DNC. Attendees to the Deomocratic National Convention should click the link above to get the full scoop on parks around the city.

Charlotte Museum of History
As you know from other blog articles, I am a huge history buff so this spot really sounds interesting. It's free. Visitors are given a phone number to call that will provide a walking tour narrative of the site. The Hezekiah Alexander house was built in 1774. There is a reproduction log kitchen, barn and spring house. Grounds include historic gardens, statues, a Chilean mill and American Freedom Bell.

These are just three of the free things to do in Charlotte. There is little doubt that these are the tip of the iceberg. When you travel there, what do you like to do? Leave a comment to let us know what your favorite activity or destination is in Charlotte.
