Things to do in Oahu, Hawaii

It's no secret that Oahu, Hawaii is one of the top vacation destinations in the U.S. Some of the more popular activities include visiting the Battleship Missouri Memorial and the U.S.S. Arizona at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center and the beach area around the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort Spa. There are a few things to do in Oahu that travelers may miss. Here are a few of them.

Natural sites

Leahi Diamond Head State Monument

Visitors are treated to a spectacular view of Honolulu from the top of the crest. Drive or take the bus and then hike to Diamond Head. It was named by British Sailors in the 19th century. They mistakenly believed that they had discovered diamonds. The trail hike carries a "moderate" rating and contains 175 steps.

Nuuanu Pali Lookout
This heritage site of Hawaii. Visitors get a good view of Koolau cliffs, University of Hawaii’s marine biology research center, Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden and more. The best way to get there is by bus, tour or car. Check online sites like Expedia for rental car deals.

Beaches
Pristine beaches are possibly the top reason why so many tourists visit Hawaii. The North Shore on Oahu is the destination of the world's top surfers. Winter brings the best waves and several surfboarding competitions. It takes about an hour to drive to the North Shore from Waikiki. Tourists can also shop or enjoy their choice of local restaurants in Haleiwa, Waimea Bay and throughout the fabled North Shore.

Shopping
From local to international, Oahu offers almost every shopping opportunity that you can imagine. Visitors can enjoy outlet shopping, a galleria and several marketplaces. Local and upscale boutiques offer unique crafts that can't be found anywhere except right here.

Climates
Temperature in Hawaii hover between 75-85F. There may be the very occasional rain shower but much of the year is bright and sunny. Bring your sunscreen, beach shoes and a large memory card for your camera. You will need all three when you visit Oahu.
