Free Oak Ridge Community Band Labor Day concert

Are you looking for a Boomsday fireworks alternative? If loud noises and large crowds aren't your thing, then I have a solution for you. The Oak Ridge Community Band will host their annual free concert on  Monday, the day after Labor Day at 7:00 pm.

The Labor Day concert marks the last summer performance of the Oak Ridge Community Band. I am excited to get to go again this year. The selections played by the band are perfect for waving good-bye to summer. Plus, Razzleberry’s Ice Cream Lab bring some yummy refreshments for us to buy.

A write-up in the Oak Ridge Today says that the 2012 selections will include American River songs, Louis Armstrong tunes, a polka and more. When I went last time, the band expanded my music appreciation by playing some old favorites and a couple tunes that I didn't recognize.

Bissell Park is once again the setting for the free Oak Ridge Community Band concert. Being out in the open helps make it a casual event that everyone can relax and enjoy.  People usually bring lawn chairs or quilts to spread on the ground. (I'd also recommend sunscreen and bug spray.)

Parking is plentiful, the free concert is completely family friendly and a few people even bring pets.  Small town events like this one are becoming few and far between. The Oak Ridge Community Band works hard to make this possible. Look at these Oak Ridge photos from July 2011 to get an idea of the concert layout. I'll be at Bissell Park on the Monday after Labor Day and hope that you'll be there too.
