Lafollette UMC Willow, Alaska Mission Trip Photos and Story

A brief story of my experience during the Lafollette Mission Trip to Willow, Alaska is now online. This has been one of the formative experiences of my life. From building a house to seeing Denali and watching the face of my daughter light up, I can testify that the trip to amazing.

You can click this link to see the photos. It gives a good overview of where and how we stayed, the house that we built and more.

Building a house in Alaska is very different from building one in Tennessee. For starters, the house had 21" of insulation in the ceiling. Check yours for comparison. You'll probably find that yours has a good bit less than that.

Then, after the insulation is complete the walls have to be wrapped in room size pieces of plastic. This forms a vapor proof barrier that has to be secured and inspected. Then the walls can be put up. It took our team the entire week just to install the insulation.

When the day was over we got to spend time relaxing. One night the team was invited out on a boat and had one of the most interesting experiences of the trip.

Everything wouldn't fit into one slideshow. But what I was able to fit in might just be enough to tempt you to visit Alaska one day.
