Campground
Camping out at the Fort Wilderness Campground and Resort. It's one of the five cheap things to do at Walt Disney World that puts you in the great outdoors, but steps away from all that Walt Disney World has to offer.
My family of 5 of us stayed here for $55 per night including a pet fee. We brought a tent and slept in a nicely shaded area next to a creek. Electricity, water, a picnic table and grill were provided. The nicely apportioned bathhouse was only a few campsites over. Not only was it inexpensive but it was peaceful as well.
Entertainment at Fort Wilderness
The free entertainment and activities at the Fort Wilderness Resort make it another one of the five cheap things to do at Walt Disney World. Visitors need to be staying somewhere on Disney property or be limited to 3 hour parking.
Here you can picnic, hike, rent a kayak or canoe, swim, visit the horse stables and go to the nightly free campfire and sing-a-long with Chip and Dale. Bring a blanket to the sing-a-long. There's a free Disney movie afterward. This is at least a whole day's worth of activities.
Ride the transportation
Transportation is another one of the cheap things to do at Walt Disney World. Park admission in not required to use the Disney transportation. Enjoy a free boat ride across the lake. Travel on the monorail. Take a boat ride to a different resort. Spend half a day or an afternoon.
Downtown Disney
This free area of Walt Disney World is filled with shops and restaurants. Visit Nessie the Loch Ness monster in Legos. Be careful that the humongous Lego T-Rex doesn't get you. Want free chocolate samples? Visit the Ghiradelli Chocolate Shop. Visitors can easily spend half a day or a full evening here.
Boardwalk
Visit this carnival style area right behind Epcot. It's free and is reminiscent of the old days at Coney Island. Mimes, jugglers and magicians stroll the streets. There are carnival style games and more. Guests can easily take half a day or more here.
