Resurrection in Gatlinburg 2011

This weekend is Resurrection in Gatlinburg for 2011. Actually, it's next weekend too. I've not been feeling well and didn't make it to any of the sessions. My daughter is chaperoning this year and she has had only great things to say.

Gatlinburg itself is a fun place to visit. There are lots of shops and interesting attractions. The town is set up so that many of these are along the main road as you come in. The best way to see the town is to park your car in one of the lots that are off the main highway and hoof it to the attractions that you want to visit.

Don't worry about a place to stay. There are plenty of hotels and motels in the town. Gatlinburg also offers a trolley service that will help you get around. If you are coming to Resurrection you do need to call to make reservations ahead of time at the lodging of your choice.

During two weeks in January the town comes alive as thousands of United Methodist Youth (and a few other groups) descend upon it. The event is known as Resurrection. It's a gigantic religious explosion of music, ministry and action. It's part preaching, part concert and all about God.

In the downtime on Saturday afternoon, the youth will usually get to go about the town in groups to explore the town. (Sorry youth, plan on having a chaperone with you).

Youth groups who go to Resurrection in Gatlinburg are expected to have devotionals during the trip. This helps the kids to process what they've learned. The whole experience is geared toward kids in grade 6 - 12. It hits the mark and gives them something to look forward to annually.

In all, Resurrection in Gatlinburg is an amazing weekend and 2011 is no exception.
