Eagle cam puts life into perspective

For those who may not know, an eagle cam is a web camera that has been placed near an eagle's nest. It's the same type of camera that is used to broadcast pictures from the Gatlinburg Space Needle or (one of my favorites) the Penquins Rock cam at the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga.

Web cams are popular tools for learning. They may stream images live or update every few seconds. Animal and nature web cams are often used to spur public interest.

Glacier National Park 2009

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of National Parks. I’ve had the privilege of seeing many in the United States and some in Canada. Standing next to glaciers that have been there for a millennia or seeing gysers explode in Yellowstone National Park are experiences that I will never forget.

It’s humbling to know that not everyone will get to see these things. In a decade or less the glaciers may disappear from Glacier National Park. Yellowstone and Denali are changing as is the rest of the world.

Web cams from the National Parks Service give us the opportunity to view parks and glaciers before they disappear. They, like the Eagle cam at the link above and the other animal cams on this page, remind us of what’s really important.
