Sunnyside Trail Discover Tennessee Byways

Travel the Sunny Side of Life on one of Tennessee's newer Discover Tennessee Trails and Byways. The Sunny Side Trail takes you through a simpler era of fun locations.

My family found out how much fun this trail can be. We went to Roan Mountain in search of the Overland Victory Trail. In the process we found the hiker's dream called the Appalachian Trail but we also found out we were traveling on the Sunny Side driving trail.

Tennessee has a number of driving tours that you can take. The roadways aren't always connected but the shops and scenery are interesting.

We first found this Tennessee driving tour when we went to Sevierville. There are several spots in Sevier County where you can enjoy this tour. When you're on it you can explore the hometown of Dolly Parton or do some shopping. In other words, you can just have fun. That's what the Sunny Side of life is all about.

While on the way to Roan Mountain we found the trail just outside of Elizabethton. The Sycamore Shoals State Historic Area, the Carter Mansion and Watauga Lake. Just off of this driving tour we found in the Appalachian Trail (for hikers).

Plus, we were able to take the Sunny Side Trail to Roan Mountain State Park. We stayed at the campground and visited the sites listed above. The whole vacation was a lot of fun. I hope to get to do it again one day.
