Three free things to do in Chattanooga

There are three free things to do in Chattanooga that families or couples will enjoy. It's one of my favorite cities to visit. Not only is it close to Knoxville but two major interstates run through it which makes it accessible from Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia.

One of the free things that I like to do in Chattanooga is to visit the River View Arts District. The sculpture garden there is a thing of beauty. I think that visitors will find at least one stainless steel sculpture. There are also sculptures made from several other types of materials. Each one of these works of art is more intriguing than the next.

The arts district isn't far from the pedestrian-only Walnut Street bridge. It's between the parking lot at the Tennessee Aquarium and the Hunter Museum. Bridges like this one were constructed from the late 1800's to just after the turn of the century. The views from here are tremendous. Of the list of free things to do in Chattanooga this one takes the cake.

Visitors will also want to see the sculptures at the Hunter Museum of art. It's not free but visiting the museum is always interesting.

While you are in the area be sure to take a look at the plaza area around the Tennessee Aquarium. This is actually a park with fountains, concrete sculptures and man made stream. The concrete sculptures provide shade for summer entertainment. There aren't any picnic tables but it's not uncommon for people to have a brown bag lunch next to the man made stream.
