The 2013 Dogwood Arts Festival is right around the corner in Knoxville, Tennessee. Almost every yard in the city will be awash in color. Dogwood Arts Festival auto tours are a highlight of the event. Homes and businesses along these routes make an extra special effort to plant flowers as part of the festival.
City pride doesn't stop at the end of a Dogwood Trail. Homeowners throughout the Knoxville will buy locally or will buy discount flowers online to make their own home landscaping a little nicer.
There is a long list of 2013 Dogwood Arts festival events. Through the years, I have visited as many as programs as my schedule has allowed. I can say with confidence that programs are offered that every age group will enjoy. Here are a few of my favorites:
Chalk Walk
April 6, 2013
Street painting in downtown Knoxville is too much fun. Armed with chalk, a few towels and ingenuity both kids and professional artists tackle the sidewalks of Market Square and Krutch Park. The rain date is Sunday, April 7. The best places to park are along Gay Street, a few spots on Union or the free Market Square Mall parking garage.
Knoxville Arts Festival Driving Trails
April 10 - 28, 2013
Last year, we drove the 2012 featured Westmoreland Trail from Kingston Pike at Lyons View and through West Knoxville. Easy access to Kingston Pike make it easy to integrate the tour with my usual errand-running route. It added a little bit of sanity to an otherwise hectic day. Then I took another day, drove it with Hubby and stopped for dinner out after the drive.
Farragut is the featured trail for 2013. I look forward to spending time on this trail as well.
Other events that look promising are the Nexus 2013 sculpture and mixed media show, student art exhibition and Bikes and Blooms. The Market Square Art Fair (always fun) and the free Dogwood Art DeTour are also on my "must see" list.
Dogwood Art DeTour takes you on a behind the scenes look at some of the art studios in downtown Knoxville. Each one will have completed works of art available for purchase. The site says that artists stuidos throuhout the area are participating from 10 am - 5 pm daily. I haven't participated in this Knoxville Dogwood Arts Festival event yet and am looking forward to trying it out.
The festival website has a full list of things to see and do during the festival. Which events are your favorites?
