Labor Day weekend means Boomsday in Knoxville, Tennessee

It is almost time for one of the largest events in our area. Labor Day weekend means Boomsday in Knoxville, Tennessee. This isn't just any fireworks show. It's the largest Labor Day weekend fireworks show in the U.S. Want to know the best part? It's free and there are lots of fun activities for the whole family.

My family went to the first Boomsday in 1987 and have been many years since. Concessions are avaialble on the grounds along Neyland Drive. The lines aren't usually long during the day. We always make a point to buy something because it helps make the event successful.

We usually pack a cooler for the car for the family and carry a few snacks in my purse or camera case. (No backpacks are allowed).  Lines get longer as it gets closer to fireworks time. Leaving the parking garage can also take awhile. Munching on sandwiches from the cooler gives us a chance to grab something to eat while the line leave the parking garage thins out.

Boomsday is a great event for Knoxville. It's family friendly, fun and free so it fits in any budget. Parking is free at city-owned parking garages on the weekends. Events on the ground begin as early as 1:00 pm and the fireworks show begins around 9:30 pm.

Details and information about handicapped parking is on the Boomsday website. It's also an important place to find out which roads are closed for the event. Check it out before you go. www.boomsday.org/event-info/
