Tent revivals are open to travelers who are on vacation

My daughter and I were traveling and found this tent revival. They were just setting up when we passed by and seeing it was pretty cool. We have made plenty of road trips together but this is the first time in a long time that we've seen a revival tent.

It's a modern take take-off on an old style of worship. In the earliest days of Christianity in the U.S. people used to gather under trees to listen to a sermon. The concept of camp meetings followed soon after. Those meetings eventually converged to become the tent revivals like the one that we see pictured.

Tent revival

The public is encouraged to attend so if you are on a road trip and see a tent revival it's okay to pop in. You don't have to dress a certain way or act a certain way.

In fact, you're better off leaving your high heels and suits at home. Everyone expects everyone else to dress for the weather - shorts included. They also expect some people to attend who are traveling on vacation.

A revival is a Christian worship service that is designed to do two things. One is to raise your spirits to encourage you along your spiritual walk. The other goal is to introduce people to Christ. A free will offering is usually collected at some point in the service. You can put in a dollar or twenty dollars and you don't have to feel bad if you give nothing at all.

As long as you are respectful, you don't have to be Christian to come to a revival. Tents often allow you the opportunity to stay for a little while and then get back on the road. The easiest way is to sit at the end of a row or toward the back.

If you do see a tent revival while you are on a road trip, then I hope you stop. They are peppy, upbeat and can be great to rejuvenate you for the rest of your vacation.
