Boomsday Tips in Knoxville on Labor Day Weekend

Are you going to Boomsday in Knoxville? It's the largest Labor Day firewor ks show in the United States. You won't want to miss it!

But the good news is that Boomsday is more than just a fireworks show. There are free concerts, food and craft vendors and lots to see and do. Kids will have a blast in an area that is just for them.

One of the tricks for getting around to the Boomsday is to go early. Get your parking space by 2:00 or 3:00 at the latest. Expect to pay $10 at some garages including the City County Building and Blount Mansion.

Pack a picnic for your car but don't plan on taking it onto the festival grounds. Coolers and backpacks are a no-no. They won't let you bring in bottles of water either. Plan to get these from the food vendors at Boomsday.

Be patient. Last year our 30 minute trip to Boomsday took over 3 hours to get home. There was lots of traffic. Most everyone was in a good mood but not quite everyone. Be patient, drive slowly and you will be fine.

There will be road closures that will affect traffic both going to and from Boomsday. This is necessary for the safety of crowds and for fireworks detonation. This is mostly centered around the Henley Street Bridge and Neyland Drive area. Look at the Knoxville Events Facebook Page below for the list or pick up a copy of the Knoxville News Sentinel.
