Here are a few photos from our trip to Wilderness Road State Park in Virgina. The scenery was stunning. On the day we arrived their annual fall festival was in full swing and almost no parking spaces were found.
We got there from going on Hwy. 58 North after heading out of Cumberland Gap National Historic Park in Tennessee. It's definitely on our places to visit again.
The Wilderness Road State Park is named for a famous road that was cut by explorer Daniel Boone. The trail led settlers from the east to new lands in the west.
We enjoyed the leisurely drive through the hills to the park and actually stumbled upon it by accident. It's easy to imagine that the early visitors might have been awed by the scene.
Although I did the best I could with my new FujiFilm 18X digital camera the photos don't do justice to the beauty of this place. This second picture was taken just outside of the entrance. Who wouldn't want the chance to explore these mountains?
I can't wait to go back. Hopefully, I'll come out of it with enough photos for a movie. Movies from the parks I visit are often requested by blog readers and I'm glad you enjoy them. There's no estimated date yet. We'll just take it as it comes just like the settlers did when they traveled Wilderness Road.
