How to choose a discount area rug for your home

There are many discount area rugs on the market these days. You can find them in any color, shape and style. They can be the perfect decorating touch for your home.

If you are renting an apartment or home you may want to purchase a discount area rug for your home. This can save wear and tear on the floor or existing carpet.

There are outdoor varieties of cheap rugs that a perfect for outdoor use. Put one outside and use it as a doormat. This will reduce the amount of dirt that is tracked into your home.

Area rugs can add a dimension that makes a small room seem larger. Put one under the coffee table or dining room table. A long runner used in a hallway can make your entire home seem larger.

Choosing a patterned rug or Oriental rug can make all the elements in a room pull together. They can be especially helpful when having to decorate a room with mismatched or odd furniture.

When selecting a rug that will pull a room together there are a few things to keep in mind. You will want to select a patterned rug with a dark background color.

Look at your room and survey your furniture and walls. Decide what dark color will work best. This will be the background color for your rug. Pick up color swatches from a paint store or carpet if you aren’t sure what will work.

Once you have the background color narrowed down it’s time to decide what type of pattern you want and which colors you want in the pattern.

Bold geometric shapes in multiple colors can make the room seem larger. The downside is that they won’t always pull a room together. In fact, they can be counterproductive to what you are trying to accomplish.

An area rug with an intricate pattern like paisley or an Oriental rug pattern will usually work best. Look for one that has the background color you need and the accent colors in the design that you want.

Rugs can be ordered online or purchased from a furniture store. Big box home improvement stores and salvage shops will also usually carry rugs. You don’t have to spend a lot to get the area rugs that work for you. The trick is to get one that you like and enjoy it for years.


Make sure that the rug is sturdy. If it is too lightweight it won’t hold up to long term use. The edges should be secure and firmly stitched. If they aren’t, you’ll need to choose another rug.

You deserve to have a home you feel comfortable in. The right rug can go a long way toward making apartment or house more enjoyable.
