Eleven Tennessee sites have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. Not every place that applies is accepted. Each historic site that is added must meet certain specific criteria to be placed on the rolls. All sites that are added to the register have regional, local and cultural significance.
Tennessee is a state that rich in diversity. From the mountains to the mighty Mississippi it's impossible to travel here without walking on the footpath of history. Trails were blazed by Daniel Boone, presidents were born and lived here and battles were fought here.
Early pioneers, the early beginnings of the US government, the birthplace of country music and the development of Blues are all interwoven into the fabric of the great state called Tennessee. The sites that have been placed on the register reflect the historic value that is found in every corner of the state.
