If you are a resident of McMinn County, TN you probably want to know what to recycle and where to take it. There is little doubt that a program to help citizens recycle saves on landfill space. The recycling center in Athens, TN makes it easy to go green and recycle every day household items.

Plastic, steel cans and other things can be taken to the the recycling center in Athens. Not every county will let residents use recycling centers that are located in the city. As a county resident, I was happy find out that we have an opportunity to go green.

The clerk at the McMinn County landfill told me that only a few types of mater can be recycled at the county landfill. Batteries, tires, paper and newspaper rounded out the list of what could be brought there to recycle.

The list of materials that are accepted for recycling at the Public Works Department in Athens includes paper, plastic, glass, tin, cardboard, electronics, motor oil and vegetable oil. Other things that are recycled include oil filters, car batteries and aluminum and steel cans.

Everything that goes to the recycle center should be clean. To go green here, cans should have the labels removed prior to recycling. Lightbulbs were the only items I had that couldn't be recycled here. Instead, they have to be mailed or dropped off at some home improvement stores.

Going green in McMinn County can't be easier. The Public Works Department recycling center in Athens is convenient to my weekly errands. Plus, all the items to be recycled can be placed in one bag. Their staff will sort everything on their end.

The City of Athens uses a single stream process to recycle. This lets you everything together that you want to recycle. All I have to do to go green do is save recyclables, toss them into a bag and toss it into the dumpster at the center. How cool is that?
