I do positively enjoy living in the country. We're still considering some redecorating options. Instead of repainting the dining area I'm thinking of adding molding. My only concern is that the molding could overpower the small space. That's really my only hesitation right now.
We're fortunate to have some home repair and remodeling gurus in our church. I'm not sure what we would do without them. As a kid, I learned at my Grandfather's knee that small mistakes can spell big problems. Remodeling our living room as a teen turned out to be a bigger project than anyone thought.

Base molding (also called base boards) is the easiest to install. This closes the gap between the floor and the wall. Ceiling molding does the same thing at the top of the wall. It comes in a variety of materials. Some are prepared and only stick into place. Wood will need to be cut, sanded, sealed and painted before being placed.
The type of molding that I am considering is wall frames. This will essentially make large sections of the wall look like it is sitting in a frame. Before installing the molding the wall has to be sanded and primed.
It's not a complicated job but it does require attention to detail. Full instructions can be found by doing a search on the internet. When installing molding it's critical to measure carefully. The adage 'measure twice, cut once' has never been more important. To look right the molding has to fit well, be prepared adequately and be level. If one corner is off the whole project will be off!
It is definitely a project that requires patience and the right tools. If you don't have both then it may be time to call a pro or a neighborhood handyman in to help.
