A Grand Canyon road trip is one of our favorites

One of our favorite family road trips included a stop at the Grand Canyon. We piled in the mini-van, took off from our home in North Carolina and headed into the edge of California. This was our second canyon experience for my daughter and myself but it was a first for Hubby.

Each trip was different. We didn't get to take one of the Grand Canyon tours though and hope to do that next time. That way we can leave our car in Phoenix and let someone else navigate.

As someone who drove across the country I can honestly say that it's nice to let someone else drive occasionally. There is something to be said for allowing a motorcoach whisk you away in comfort.

It's easy to see why this is one of the most visited National Parks in the country. The Grand Canyon is beyond breathtaking.

While we were there we were able to:

Visit the north and south rims
Drive through a reservation
Stand where people lived 600+ years ago
Take in a ranger program
Have a picnic
Pick up souvenirs
Take lots and lots of photos!

Visitors to the Grand Canyon need to bring plenty of water or electrolyte drinks and sunscreen. We found out that the weather can change drastically in just a few minutes. It's easiest to dress in layers. We were warned that food and gas are in short supply in the park. Packing a picnic lunch and filling up the gas tank before going into the Grand Canyon were very good suggestions.

There was more in the area that we wish we could have fit into our schedule. Hubby and I look forward to returning to the Grand Canyon. It's one national park that is worth every mile to go see.
