What to do in Nashville for families with kids

Since most vacations will be close to home this year, parents may wonder what to do in Nashville for families with kids. Nashville is always a popular tourist destination. Since it is the Capitol of Tennessee there are several attractions for families with kids that are free. This list of what to do in Nashville may make your vacation planning easier.

Centennial Park
This park is a good place to let the kids burn off some energy. It's free and close to downtown. There is a large grassy field where kids can play. And, if you're wondering what to do in Nashville for families with kids, the train engine, fighter jet and feeding geese will keep kids occupied.

The Parthenon
This structure in Centennial Park should be on every 'what to do in Nashville' list. It is a replica Parthenon in Athens, Greece. Inside, is a four story statue of the goddess Athena and the walls are lined with statues relating to Greek mythology. An admission fee applies.

Forts
History buffs who want to know what to do in Nashville, may do well to visit Fort Nashborough and the remains of Fort Negley. Both are free and fun for kids.

Fort Negley has a film of how the Union seized control of the city during the Civil War. There is a self-guided walking tour and visitor center. Fort Nashboro was built to protect early pioneers who arrived in 1780. Located in downtown Nashville in Riverfront Park, the fort has a free self-guided walking tour and large grassy area. Agriculture
The Tennessee Agricultural Museum houses a collection of artifacts from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Parents wondering what to do in Nashville with kids will enjoy the farm and home items on display here. There are also log cabins, gardens and a nature trail. There is no admission for the museum or grounds.
