These Cherohala Skyway and Bald River Falls photos were taken yesterday. The roadway runs directly in front of the bridge. One path on each side of the falls takes you down to the water. It's a great place to take the photos of the rapids that you see.
Wear hiking boots or sturdy sneakers. The path to the Bald River Falls pool is rocky and a little steep in spots. I definitely benefited from my walking stick and telephoto lens.
Bald River Falls is off the Cherohala Skyway on Forest Road 210 off of Tellico River Road. The Skyway is accessible from I-75 to Hwy. 68 toward Tellico Plains. From there, it's a matter of following the signs. There are restaurants in Tellico Plains and a couple of places on the Skyway. A picnic area is about .3 mile beyond the fall that gives a decent view of the river.
I hope you enjoyed the photos of the river and Bald River Falls. The pictures will open into a larger frame by clicking on the link. Feel free to share it or post the link on your favorite social media account.
The falls drop 100 feet into the pool below. They create the rapids you see in the top photo. It's a raw display of the power of nature in the Cherokee National Forest.
It was too early in the season to see any fall color in the mountains yet. Don't worry. I'll be back when the leaves begin to turn. Driving the Cherohala in the fall is an amazing experience. If you travel through Etowah on the way to the Cherokee National Forest and skyway, don't forget to stop by the Chamber of Commerce for information.
