I realize that not everyone in the world knows who Peyton
Manning is, but most everyone in East Tennessee knows of him. Peyton played quarterback for the University
of Tennessee and his heart is still here.
I would bet his blood does flow orange and white even now that he is the
Quarterback for the Denver Broncos.
On Saturday evening, June 27, 2015, Peyton will be the guest speaker for the Athens,Tennessee Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Benefit
Dinner... This will be the 9th
year for this dinner. Peyton is
following in some big shoes as some of the former guest speakers include actor
Kirk Cameron and a few of football’s top names such as Herschel Walker oh – and
the Incredible Hulk himself, Lou Ferrrigno was guest speaker one year!
This event will take place at the McMinn
County High School Gym, beginning at 6:00 pm.
The annual benefit dinner should be a lot of fun and
something you sports fanatics would highly enjoy. There will be food, fun and a football hero! What more can you ask for! The money raised
from this dinner will be donated to organizations within Athens, Tennessee.
I would be happy just to be in Athens that evening to
catch a look at Peyton as he enters for the festivities. Since he will be the tallest guy around it
should be easy to spot him in a crowd.
A few Athens facts to get you in the Athens mood: It is the McMinn County seat and, yes, it was
named after Athens, Greece! Athens is
off of Interstate I-75, Exit 49 will take you right into town. It is about half-way between Knoxville to the
northeast and Chattanooga to the southwest.
While in Athens waiting to get a glimpse of this
Tennessee Hero I would plan on having dinner in Athens. If you are into buffet style meals, the
Western Sizzlin’ Steakhouse has reopened after a fire and renovations. The menu is just as good as it always was and
the service is fast.
If you are into something a little fancier, try Ruby
Tuesday’s in Athens, right off of Exit 49 of the interstate. They have a really nice salad bar and their
steaks have been tasty and tender the last few times my husband and visited!
You know, I think I’ve talked myself into riding into
Athens on June 27th and if I don’t catch a glimpse of Peyton at
least I know I’ll have a good meal somewhere in town!
