Life is short, take time to stop and smell the roses

In this world of hustle and bustle everything moves way too fast.  Maybe, before it is too late, we need to slow down and take time to smell the roses.
A country road view.

Have you ever just grabbed the wife and kids, got in the car and took a ride without having a destination in mind?  Instead of planning out a route along I-75 why not take a country road and see where it leads?  You never know what you might find, or enjoy, once you give up the 80 mph roads for a slow paced 25 mph.

Make sure you have gas in the car before you start.  You don’t want to run out on a back country road.  But the benefits outweigh the minor issues when taking the long way home.  For instance, if you ride down a country road you may come upon a farm stand.  Instead of buying tomatoes and corn at the grocery store – have you ever tried fresh veggies right from the farm?  There is a huge difference!

Farmer making hay while the sun shines.

Drive on down a little further and you might come across a farmer bailing hay.  Maybe your kids have never seen that process before.  That would be a good time to stop and let them see how many farmers make a living.  It might not be glamorous, but it is honest work.

The city, full of cement and cars, doesn’t offer up much opportunity to see a horse and rider meandering down a back road.  Just out for a Sunday stroll, they are enjoying Mother Nature.   That guy won’t have to worry about running out of gas that’s for sure.

Oh look, the next pasture is full of cows and they are literally running across the field because the farmer just showed up.  Cows aren’t dumb…that farmer means food!  I get the biggest kick out of seeing cows run.  Again, you won’t see that on any city block.

If you remembered to take along some snacks then you might want to find a nice cool spot by the river.  Soak in the atmosphere and relax.  There is no rush to get anyplace.

Are you up for it?  Are you ready to take time to smell the roses?  Are you ready to to take it all in?
