Helium balloon ride in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

If you are looking for a romantic date, put this on your list. I have wanted to take a hot air balloon ride for years. The helium balloon ride in Pigeon Forge is the next best thing. Wonders of Flight is tethered so you don't actually fly away and the altitude is about 400 feet. It's not a hot air balloon or a jumbo jet but it's high enough for me.

No one else was on board when we took the ride. It was just Hubby, myself and the balloon pilot. The view over Pigeon Forge was breathtaking. I'm pretty sure that you could see forever from the gondola. It was a short 15 minute trip.

The gondola on the Wonders of Flight helium balloon ride can hold 30 people and can also accommodate  standard size wheelchairs. The ride itself is smoother than an elevator. There were two bumps when we first got started. Other than that, I didn't feel a thing except a slight breeze. We didn't have any twisting or much swaying. It was very nice.

Tickets for adults are $15.99. Kids 12 and under are $9.99. Kids who are under 36" ride for free. The staff will take your photo on the walkway to the balloon. I think we paid about $20 for a folder, an 8x10 and two 5x7 prints.

The address is 100 Music Road, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863. It took some figuring out to get to the launch pad. I didn't think that the signs were well marked.

You can't miss the helium balloon ride. Just the entrance to it. You may see the entrance signs for Wonder Works before you reach the Wonders of Flight balloon ride. The launch pad is on the lot behind the museum.
