Knox County to host rabies vaccination clinics on Sat. May 9 2010

According to the Knox  County Health Department all pets must be vaccinated, registered and tagged. The cost is only $10 per pet.

Common carriers of this virus include skunks, bats and raccoons. All of these are commonly found in East Tennessee. There is risk of rabies transmission if your pet comes into contact with a rabies carrier. The virus is then transmitted to humans by a bit from an infected animal. The CDC says that the disease is incurable. That's why getting a rabies vaccination is so important.

Several area schools are participating on Saturday. If you pet is older than 3 months it is eligible to vaccinated. The clinics run from 2:00pm. - 4:30 pm.

It goes without saying that your pet must be under your control at all times. Dogs must be on a leash. Cats must either be in carriers or pillowcases.
