The Museum of Appalachia Tennessee Fall Homecoming always draws a crowd. Did you know that the museum itself is part of the Smithsonian Institution Affiliation Program? There are little more than a handful of affiliated museums across the state. We are fortunate to have one in our very own back yard.
Known for its unique display of local Appalachian culture the Museum of Appalachia Tennessee Fall Homecoming is a festival that is not to be missed. Families can enjoy a full day of entertainment, crafts demonstrations, local food and culture experiences and more.
Music at the Museum of Appalachia Fall Homecoming includes bluegrass, gospel and country entertainments. Kathy Mattea will be performing as will hundreds of other groups and individuals.
There are displays and craft demonstrations that will carry you back in time. The educational experiences are so fun that you won’t even realize that you are learning. Where else but at the Museum of Appalachia Tennessee Fall Homecoming can you watch demonstrations on:
How to spin wool
Creating old timey musical instruments
Quilting
Lye soap making
Chair caning
These are just a few of the demonstrations that are going on.
If you get hungry while visiting the Museum of Appalachia Tennessee Fall Homecoming, don’t worry. There are plenty of local food vendors that offer traditional Appalachian cuisine.
Abundant parking is available. It’s free but the event does have a paid admission fee. You can get a discount by reserving in advance.
