DOE bus tours help visitors understand Oak Ridge history

Hubby grabbed his calendar when he found out about the Department of Energy (DOE) bus tours. These help visitors understand Oak Ridge, Tennessee history. When Hubby found out that the tours are free with a paid admission to the American Museum of Science and Energy he got plumb giddy.

The DOE bus tours are available Monday – Friday from June 1 through September 9, 2011.

Visitors can see the sites and understand the history behind the Manhattan Project and how Oak Ridge, Tennessee played its part in the creation of the first atomic bomb. A large display inside the museum tells part of the story. The inclusion of the bus tour should only add to the understanding of this historic project.

Time permitting; there are several other things to do in Oak Ridge. Visiting the International Friendship Bell is always interesting. There is also the Children’s Museum, train excursions and lots more to do.

Visiting the town makes for a great day trip from Knoxville or a close weekend getaway. The Department of Energy bus tours through the American Museum of Science and Energy give us a reason to visit during the summer. The other historic attractions give us a reason to stay all day or even overnight.

Another article will be forthcoming after we take the tour. It should be interesting so keep checking back.
