Hubby grabbed his calendar when he found out about the Department of Energy (DOE) bus tours. These help visitors understand Oak Ridge , Tennessee history . When Hubby found out that the tours are free with a paid admission to the American Museum of Science and Energy he got plumb giddy.
The DOE bus tours are available Monday – Friday from June 1 through September 9, 2011 .
Visitors can see the sites and understand the history behind the Manhattan Project and how Oak Ridge , Tennessee played its part in the creation of the first atomic bomb. A large display inside the museum tells part of the story. The inclusion of the bus tour should only add to the understanding of this historic project.
Time permitting; there are several other things to do in Oak Ridge . Visiting the International Friendship Bell is always interesting. There is also the Children’s Museum, train excursions and lots more to do.
Visiting the town makes for a great day trip from Knoxville or a close weekend getaway. The Department of Energy bus tours through the American Museum of Science and Energy give us a reason to visit during the summer. The other historic attractions give us a reason to stay all day or even overnight.
Another article will be forthcoming after we take the tour. It should be interesting so keep checking back.
