Tips to help you pack for a move

My family and I are in the middle of moving to another city. Packing up is not one of the easiest things that we've ever done. Since the military is perhaps the only organization that moves people more than we're relocated we've gotten much better at moving.

Here are a few of our tips that may help you with your next move.

Get friends.

Get lots and lots of friends. Order pizza. Throw burgers on the grill or do whatever it takes. The more friends that you have helping the easier packing with get.

Collect free boxes

It amazed me that boxes at the moving store were so expensive. Don't buy them. Go to grocery stores, liquor stores or fast food restaurants. They always have dozens of boxes. Picking them up frees up their employees to do something other than break the boxes down. Reusing boxes helps the environment. You save money. It doesn't get much better than that.

Buy tape in bulk.

We go through tons of Clear Packing Tape. Buying it in bulk at the local retail store or online helps. You aren't as likely to run out and it keeps the packing going longer.

Stock up on bottled water

Packing is a hot business. Stocking the fridge with bottled water prevents dehydration. Be sure that everyone has a bottle to sip on throughout the packing process.

Don't eat in.

Shower and go to a restaurant, order pizza or eat those burgers outside. Once you have everything packed up on the inside the last thing you want to do is look for pots and pans. Eating out is optimal.

Don't give up

There is always a 'worse before you get better' stage. When you hit this wall it's easy to toss in the towel. Some people are tempted to load the truck at this point and leave. You don't have to. When  you are stressed to the max with unpacking take a walk, go outside or do something to clear your head. It might seem counterproductive but it's not. Packing to move will go much more smoothly after your break.
