As we continued from Vonore, Tennessee on our Etowah to Etowah in Six Hours road trip we came to Madisonville. I wasn't familiar with the town but was glad to see the Wal-Mart there. It is always a good place to stop and pick up sandwich fixings or other supplies.
Madisonville is about 20 minutes from Vonore. All we had to do to get there was take Hwy. 411 South. It was the continuation of an easy but fun road trip.
Other than finding the Wal-Mart the only thing I'd heard about this area was the crop circles. Some believe them to be real. Others think they may be part of an elaborate hoax. I don't know enough to comment on crop circles and won't say an opinion one way or the other. To decide for yourself here is the report by the ICCRA.
The town of Madisonville lies on Highway 411 in Monroe County. This part of our road trip goes through gently rolling hills in the Tennessee countryside. We knew not to let the pastoral scenery fool us into thinking that all of Monroe County is made up of such scenery. The Cherokee National Forest comprises much of the scenery and includes the famous Cherohala Skyway.
This area is one of my favorite parts of the state. I've written about both the skyway and forest in previous blog articles and will again. The area is beautiful and my whole familiy is looking forward to the majestic fall colors.
This is the link for the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce and a link to my article on the Cherohala Skyway. More about our six hour road trip is coming soon.
