Englewood, TN was our next and final stop on our Etowah to Etowah in six hours road trip. At this point in our journey the arrival was bittersweet. The road trip was a relaxing change of pace that I didn't want to come to an end. Our next stop would be to travel to the arrival point where the road trip all began.
We traveled to Englewood by taking Hwy. 411 South out of Madisonville. The highway runs right through town so you can't miss it. The road goes through some of the same type of pastoral lands against a mountain backdrop that we saw in Madisonville. This road trip terrain stands in sharp contrast to the mountains and corkscrew curves on the Hwy. 129 'tail of the dragon'.
Englewood was founded a few years after the civil war ended. At the time it was known as Tellico Junction. Industry began arriving around the turn of the century. For awhile, the town was bustling with activity. Today, there is a movement to bring more business into the area. Annual events include the Christmas Parade and other small town events.
Driving through the town was part of a relaxing day. The scenic countryside was a balm to my soul. It was now time to travel onward to where our six hour road trip loop began. Etowah, TN was only a few miles ahead of us.
