Helping tweens say good-bye to friends when moving

Helping tweens say goodbye to friends when moving is one of the most important things a parent will do. Few people like to move and kids have an even harder time.

Despite the upheavals that my daughters have faced, they are well adjusted and contributing to society. Both made it through college and/or graduate school and have a circle of close friends. Helping them find a meaningful way to say goodby each time we moved helped them weather the storm much better.

Did you know that yearly, an average of one out of five families will relocate? That's a staggering number. It's traumatic for kids to say goodbye to their home, family and friends. Tweens need time to process the news before they can say goodbye. For us, a family meeting has been the best way to break the news to our daughters. It gives them a time to ask questions and guarantees them out undivided attention.  (More...)
