The Mennonite Farm Market in Englewood, Tennessee opened
on Saturday, March 26, 2016. My husband
and I were anxiously awaiting their opening day. We got there about 9:30 am and had to wait
for a parking space. It was quite busy
but we expected it to be.
At this time of year there was not a lot of produce but
what was available was flying out the door.
They had 3 or 4 different kinds of lettuce. We got two at $2 a head and the heads are
HUGE.

They also had various greens,
which aren’t my cup of tea but they seemed to be flying off the shelves too. There were also some turnips, which I should
have gotten but didn’t, next trip.

They had little packages of popcorn and also rice. I had never seen rice there before. I didn’t know they grew rice there as a
matter of fact! After that was the ‘goodie
section’ where I purchased a package of oatmeal raisin cookies. I had them last year and they were just as
good this time.
There were little loaves of bread, a few other kinds of
cookies and some pies. There was a line
to pay I had stalled out right near the goodie section and could have gotten
one of everything. I could have eaten a
whole pack of cookies right then!

They are also selling plants in their little
hothouse. I sent my husband to look, but
they are selling the same variety of tomato plants that you can buy anywhere a
little cheaper too.
I know that as the season goes on the place will be
busier and busier. Our next trip will be
to buy strawberries. I plan on buying
some to eat and some to freeze. Their
berries are out of this world!
The Mennonite Farm Market is off of County Road 422,
Englewood, TN. Since they don’t use
electricity, the only way to find out if they are open and what they are
selling is by word of mouth! So spread
the word, they are open for the season!
While you may not live within driving distance of this
particular Mennonite Farm Market, you might want to check around in your neck
of the woods to see if there is one near you.
You can’t go wrong with their produce, that’s for sure.
Note: When taking
photos at the Mennonite Farm Market do not photograph the Mennonites. They don’t mind if you take photos of the
building, vegetables and horses.
