Forest service fall foliage hotline is up and running

Word is that the annual forest service fall foliage hotline is up and running. If you want to know what the leaves are like in your area, then this is the place to go for information. The hotline is run by the U.S. Forest Service. Information is available for foliage hot spots throughout the country.

No matter where you live, the Forest Service can give the up to the minute information on the fall foliage. The phone number is 1-800-354-4595 and is available throughout the U.S. When you call the hotline, the system will guide you through a set of prompts for the area or drive that you're interested in. It is the simplest way to get the 411 on all the fall colors.

You can also access the fall foliage information online by going to http://www.fs.fed.us/fallcolors/. An app is new for 2015 and can be downloaded directly from the above link.

The Forest Service suggests using the website and hotline only as guides. Colors can be different from predictions due to weather or other events. They suggest consulting with local sources in the areas where you want to travel in addition to using the hotline.
